Open Enrollment Capacity

The district shall give enrollment preference to and reserve capacity for all of the following:

• Resident students
• Students returning to the same school from the prior year
• Siblings of students already enrolled

The district may give enrollment preference to children who:

• Are in foster care
• Meet the definition of unaccompanied youth prescribed in the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (P.L. 100-77; 101 Stat. 482; 42 United States Code Section 11434a)
• Attend a school that is closing

The district may give enrollment preference to and reserve capacity for all of the following:

• Students who are children of persons who are employed by or at a school in the district
• Resident transfer students and their siblings
• Students who meet additional criteria established and published by the governing board

• If your child will continue at the same school, you do not need to reapply for open enrollment each school year.
• All incoming sixth graders living outside a middle school’s boundaries must reapply for open enrollment, regardless of their open enrollment status at their elementary school.

If a student moves out of their school’s attendance boundary during the school year, he/she may continue attending that school for the remainder of the school year. However, you must apply for open enrollment for the upcoming school year.
